Get to the "aha moment" in under 60 seconds
Map the shortest path from sign-up to the first moment your product proves its value, then cut every step that isn't on that path.
Design the empty state, not just the full one
A blank dashboard with no guidance is the #1 silent killer of activation. Replace it with one clear action, not a wall of options.
Ask for one thing at a time
Don't front-load a long sign-up form. Collect the minimum to get a user to value, then ask for the rest contextually, later.
Follow up on incomplete activation
If someone signs up but doesn't reach the core action within 24 hours, send one specific, helpful email — not a generic drip.
Watch someone who isn't you use it
Screen-record a first-time user (or a friend) going through sign-up with no guidance. The places they hesitate are your real onboarding bugs.
